Josh Allen and Von Miller mix it up with Rory McIlroy, other PGA stars during PGA Championship
What’s it like to prepare for a major championship in golf? Buffalo Bills stars Josh Allen and Von Miller got a closer look by spending time with PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy ahead of this year’s PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club.
The venue for this year’s major championship is located in Rochester, New York, just 76 miles from Buffalo. So, Allen and Miller made the drive over to Oak Hill to spend some time with McIlroy and other star golfers inside the ropes.
Allen and Miller met up with broadcast legend Jim Nantz before making their way to the course to see McIlroy in action. The Bills shared video from the day at Oak Hill:
Allen and Miller recruited McIlroy to become a member of Bills Mafia after spending a day on the course. The PGA Tour star asked the NFL stars if they’re big golfers. So, even though it’s a major event for McIlroy, it seemed like a pretty leisurely afternoon on the course.
It’s always really cool to see athletes across different sports mingling in these kind of settings. We’ll have to wait and see if McIlroy receives a free invitation to a Bills game at some point during the 2023 season.
McIlroy enters third round of PGA Championship in contention
It seems that Allen and Miller’s presence at Oak Hill earlier in the week helped McIlroy on the course. Through the first two rounds, the PGA Tour star found himself in contention entering the weekend.

McIlroy shot a 1-over-par 71 on Thursday to begin the tournament. He fired back by carding a 69 on Day 2, entering Saturday’s third round at even par. That left him five shots behind leaders Viktor Hovland, Corey Conners and Scottie Scheffler (all at -5).
The 34-year-old already has four major championships to his name, including a pair of wins at the PGA Championship (2012, 2014). But 2014 is the last time he’s finished at the top of the leaderboard in a major and he’d like to add another to his resumé.
This week’s performance at the PGA Championship — at least through two rounds — has been a nice bounce-back from The Masters. McIlroy missed the weekend cut at the season’s first major championship, leaving him still without a green jacket.
Perhaps Allen and Miller brought a little good luck during their visit to Oak Hill this week. If McIlroy is at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday evening, he might invite them back for the U.S. Open next month.
