Josh Berry flips, goes for a ride on the roof in scary closing laps wreck at Daytona
Josh Berry got in a scary wreck during the final laps of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night. The NASCAR driver was battling for the lead when his car flipped and went down the track while hanging upside down.
Burton’s car was eventually turned right-side-up, and he walked away while giving a thumbs-up to the crowd. It’s a tough end for Berry who was driving strong all night. Berry is in his first season in the Cup Series full-time and is still looking for his first victory. His best finish this year was seventh at Iowa.
Berry is driving for Stewart-Haas Racing this year. With the team shutting down at the end of the season, the 33-year-old signed a multi-year contract with the Wood Brothers Racing in July.
“This really feels like a great fit for me,” Berry said at the time. “I feel like I fit their brand and who they are and how I got here, how they got here. I feel like this is a great fit. I really enjoyed our relationship with Ford and to continue that on was something that’s important to me, and I appreciate and I’m thankful to have that opportunity. And it really just means a lot to drive an iconic car like the 21.”

Josh Berry has a ‘great opportunity’ at Wood Brothers Racing
Berry added: “I have a great opportunity to come in here and help be a part of getting them back to running where they want to run and where they expect to run, and I have the same expectations. I feel like that between everyone here at the Wood Brothers, between the affiliation with Team Penske and Ford, I think we have the pieces in place to be competitive. And I think where I’m at with the Next Gen car, I think we’ll be able to hit the ground running.”
Before joining the Cup Series full-time, Berry competed in the Xfinity Series full-time in 2022 and 2023. During that span, Berry won three races and finished no lower than 11th in the regular season standings. When he joins Wood Brothers Racing, he will replace Harrison Burton who won tonight’s Coke Zero Sugar 400.
