Last week at Daytona, Josh Berry was involved in a blowover on the backstretch and then a violent hit into the inside wall. NASCAR wants to avoid these kinds of wrecks, but more work is needed.

When drivers are in big wrecks, there are usually two kinds of responses. Drivers will either never watch the replay again or they will go back and view it, see what happened and if they can do anything better.

Josh Berry, more out curiosity than anything, did rewatch his wreck. While he’s happy with how the car held up and protected him, he understands the concern with him hitting the wall upside down.

“It was violent for sure. I think when we got home I actually turned the race on and watched it back, watched the last 30 or 40 laps and watching it on TV live I realize the concern because it was a big impact,” Berry explained, via Dustin Long of NBC Sports. “Obviously, it’s just such a circumstance there, right? Thankfully there was no grass, right? Otherwise I’d have ended up just like Ryan. So there’s been huge improvement in that aspect. But now it opens the next problem, which is that I was skidding on my roof at 150 with no brakes or no way to slow the car down and then I hit the wall. One fix creates another problem but I know they’ll get it figured out.”

Josh Berry is in the midst of a Rookie of the Year battle. He is only 19 points behind Carson Hocevar for the award. Whichever rookie finishes highest in the points will earn themselves the ROY honor.

Josh Berry has to forget Daytona, move on to Darlington

As the Cup Series gets ready for Darlington, Berry has to forget Daytona. He ran up front, put up a good run while he could, and then got wrecked out. Now, the rookie has to move on to Darlington and hope that he can keep his speed from the last few weeks.

Josh Berry has done a great job for Stewart-Haas Racing this season. That organization has had its issues over the last few years. As the team prepares to shut down at the end of the season, they have been having better performances on the track.

On Sunday, Berry is going to start on Row 8, P15. He’s in the middle of the pack, From there, he can move up, but he also has to be careful. That middle of the pack spot is the one most vulnerable to early wrecks.

Josh Berry has been putting together a solid season. He has to push his Daytona flip out of his mind. None of that should be going on this weekend anyway. All things considered, it sounds like Berry is ready to go racing again and has put this incident behind him for good.
