Former Tennessee Volunteer Josh Dobbs has shown the past few seasons that he’s quietly one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the National Football League. On Sunday afternoon against the New York Giants, Dobbs once again displayed the magic he has shown in the past few seasons for the Cleveland Browns. In the second quarter against the New York Giants, Dobbs ripped off a 23-yard touchdown run, bowling over a Giants defender to make his way into the end zone.

It was his first career rushing touchdown in the National Football League.

Check it out below.

At halftime, the Cardinals led the Giants 20-0. The Giants would come back to win the game, 31-28, in one of the biggest comebacks in franchise history. Dobbs completed 21 of 31 passes for 228 yards, while tossing one touchdown. As a runner, he had three carries for 41 rushing yards and a touchdown, including the 23-yard scamper above.

He displayed the magic we all saw last preseason with the Cleveland Browns. Whatever started to click, it clicked in a big way for the dynamic dual threat in the fall of 2022.

The Cardinals have only two active quarterbacks on their roster in Dobbs and Clayton Tune. Tune, a rookie out of Houston, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Former Pro Bowler Kyler Murray started the season on the PUP list while Colt McCoy was released ahead of training camp.

Dobbs played his college ball for the Tennessee Volunteers. He was a fourth-round pick by the Steelers back in the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the former Volunteer failed to impress the Pittsburgh brass during his time with the franchise and was beat out by Mason Rudolph as the backup to now-retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Dobbs has attempted 17 passes in his NFL career, completing 10 of them for 45 yards. He has thrown no touchdowns and one interception in his career.

During his college career with the Volunteers, he set program records for career rushing yards by a quarterback (2,160 yards), single-season rushing yards by a quarterback (831 yards in 2016), and single-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (12 touchdowns in 2016). Dobbs joined the likes of Dak Prescott and Tim Tebow as the SEC quarterbacks to record 15 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in multiple seasons. Not only that, his 3,781 yards of total offense in 2016 ranked as one of the best marks in program history.
