WATCH: Josh Dobbs spins away from a defender and hurdles into the end zone in preseason
Former Tennessee Volunteer Josh Dobbs has been doing everything in his power to make the Cleveland Browns’ 53-man roster this fall. On Saturday night against the Chicago Bears, he layed it all on the line on a two-point conversion attempt. First, when he dropped back all the way to the 15-yard line, Dobbs spun out of the grasp of Jake Tonges. Then, he ran across the field to the left corner, where he hurdled into the end zone from outside the three-yard line. Dobbs was met in a mid-air collision by a Bears defender, but he was not to be denied, landing in the end zone for the two-point conversion.
Check it out below.
The two-point conversion cut the Chicago lead to 21-14 with 14:47 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Simply put, the former Tennessee standout has taken things to an entirely new level this preseason and he’s been playing some really impressive football. It’ll be interesting to see if he can get some playing time before Deshaun Watson returns for the Browns. Right now, Jacoby Brissett is the starter, but if Dobbs can keep playing like that, he’s going to make Cleveland’s coaching staff take a strong look at him.

Dobbs played his college ball for the Tennessee Volunteers. He was a fourth-round pick by the Steelers back in the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, the former Volunteer failed to impress the Pittsburgh brass during his time with the franchise and was beat out by Mason Rudolph as the backup to now-retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Dobbs has attempted 17 passes in his NFL career, completing 10 of them for 45 yards. He has thrown no touchdowns and one interception in his career.
During his college career with the Volunteers, he set program records for career rushing yards by a quarterback (2,160 yards), single-season rushing yards by a quarterback (831 yards in 2016), and single-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (12 touchdowns in 2016). Dobbs joined the likes of Dak Prescott and Tim Tebow as the SEC quarterbacks to record 15 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns in multiple seasons. Not only that, his 3,781 yards of total offense in 2016 ranked as one of the best marks in program history.
