Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs did not hold back on what the team needs for the 2025 season. On Tuesday, Jacobs appeared on Up & Adams and host Kay Adams asked Jacobs if he thinks the Packers need to add a piece.

“I think we need like three,” Jacobs said. When Adams asked what the Packers need, Jacobs said, “We need a WR. A real WR. Love the guys we have but we need a proven No. 1.”

For the 2024 season, the Packers’ leading receiver was Jayden Reed who caught 55 passes for 857 yards and six touchdowns. The team’s next-best receiver was tight end Tucker Craft who caught 50 passes for 707 yards and seven TDs.

The last time Green Bay had a 1,000-yard receiver was Davante Adams who recorded 1,553 yards in 2021. Adams joined the Raiders in 2022 and was teammates with Jacobs for two seasons.

Josh Jacobs wants Davante Adams to return to the Packers

Kay Adams asked Jacobs if he wanted Davante Adams to return to the Packers. “Most definitely. Even though he’s an amazing receiver, amazing person, obviously I would want to see what it would cost us,” Jacobs said. “…We have a spot for him.”

While the wide receiver position was not strong for the Packers in 2024, the running game was at a high level due to the production of Jacobs. In 17 regular season games, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries. He finished fifth in the NFL in rushing and was selected to his third Pro Bowl.

“When he’s about to get hit, you’ll see him accelerate his feet on the contact so now you’re not taking on the full brunt of that force,” Packers running backs coach Ben Sirmans said about Jacobs in December, per Packers.com. “He’s done a really good job of understanding how to take on the hit but also how to dish it out to where you’re not taking on the brunt of the force when somebody’s trying to tackle you.”

“Certainly, the production speaks for itself. I mean, he’s an animal out there,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said. “Very few times do I feel like when we give him the ball, he doesn’t make the first guy miss. And so hopefully we’ll continue to draw up some better things for him, because he’s handled a lot of tough yards where he’s getting hit in the hole or a yard downfield and still getting positive yardage out of the plays.”
