Josh Jacobs says 'it gets deeper' to Chris Johnson questioning why Raiders haven't come to long-term deal
The Las Vegas Raiders placed the franchise tag on star running back Josh Jacobs after the former Alabama star led the league in rushing during a contract year in 2022-23. As such, Jacobs will be under team control for one more year and earning a salary based on the average of league running back salaries.
One former NFL running back, Tennessee Titans legend Chris Johnson, pondered why the Raiders haven’t come to terms with Jacobs, especially given the fact that quarterback Derek Carr was released and as of Tuesday, star tight end Darren Waller was traded to the New York Giants. With that growing dearth of skill players to pay, Johnson thinks there’s ample avenue for the Raiders to get a deal done with their running back. Jacobs seems to agree.
After replying initially to the video — from an interview posted by The 33rd Team — with just a grimacing emoji, Jacobs expanded further, writing that “It gets deeper fr but I’m not gone violate.”

Johnson’s take, as a whole, is pretty straight forward: Without a bunch of other players needing to be paid, the Raiders can get Jacobs signed to a long term deal. After Jacobs led the league in rushing last season and, generally, was a highly productive piece of the Raiders offense, Johnson thinks he’s deserving of a deal.
“When you think about the Josh Jacobs situation, it’s just crazy for me. Like, for him to all that he did, put up all these rushing yards, all these touchdowns. And you don’t believe that he’s probably the most important guy on the offense and you’re going to tag him? Like, it just don’t make sense to me. You get Darren out of there, you get quarterback — you ship him away. So why can’t we get Josh Jacobs a deal? It just don’t make sense at this point,” Johnson said.
