Over the weekend, two of the American League’s best teams, the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers, met for a three-game series. Within that larger matchup was a smaller one, which pitted brothers Josh Lowe and Nathaniel Lowe against one another.

In baseball, there tends to be some time between plays, which gives players plenty of time to interact with one another. That’s especially true for first basemen, who often interact with players on the other team.

Nathaniel Lowe is a first baseman for the Rangers and when Josh made it to first, he decided to have some fun, pestering his brother.

You can probably guess that Josh Lowe is the younger brother between the two as he makes faces directly behind his brother.

Given how that particular game was going for Tampa Bay, he probably did need to find levity somewhere. Besides, when you have the best record in baseball, people don’t mind if you have a laugh with your brother, even in a losing effort.

In many ways, both brothers have plenty of reasons to be having some fun on the baseball field. Each of their teams are in first place in their respective decisions and that doesn’t seem like it’s going to change any time soon. So, in a very long baseball season, it makes sense to joke around with someone who you care about and are likely living a dream by playing on the same MLB field with.

This wasn’t the first time that family members shared a field together in the majors. Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. are probably the best-known family members to share a field, playing together with the Seattle Mariners. However, brothers Aaron Nola and Austin Nola also met on opposing sides during the 2022 playoffs, with Aaron’s Phillies beating Austin’s Padres.

Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom needs Tommy John

The Rangers caught a lot of people by surprise, but this run to open 2023 is coming after a fairly large spending spree. That included retooling the team’s middle infielders and adding several big-name starting pitchers. The biggest name among those pitchers was Jacob deGrom.

There were some concerns about the deGrom signing due to his age and injury history, but his talent was worth it for the Rangers. However, that injury history has now reared its ugly head and he is going to need Tommy John Surgery.

“This stinks,” deGrom said of the diagnosis. “It’s not ideal. But at least we know what it is now. I want to get it fixed and will set a goal to be back before the end of next year.”

Typically, it takes 12 to 18 months to recover from Tommy John Surgery. However, Jacob deGrom is 34 years old and has had Tommy John surgery before. So, it’s unclear how long his recovery is going to take.
