Things did not end well for Josh Williams at Sonoma Raceway today. The NASCAR driver was caught up in the Big One late. Williams as well as Ty Gibbs, Brandon Jones, and Jeb Burton were taken out of the race as well.

The wreck was one thing, but Josh Williams’ response to it is the best part. Williams has worked hard for everything he has in the sport. He even used to race his own cars and work on them in the ARCA Menards Series.

So, he didn’t take kindly to “rich kids” causing the biggest wreck of the weekend and ending his day early.

It sure sounds like Josh Williams it talking about Ty Gibbs. Gibbs had a bad pit stop and lost 10 positions on the track because of it. Then, the 19 car was right in the middle of the madness when things broke out.

However, Williams may be placing the blame on the wrong driver. It appeared to have happened between other drivers. Chandler Smith was turned by either the 27 or 31 and then the field was collected. Now, maybe Williams saw something we didn’t and Gibbs was to blame.

At any rate, Williams is mad about rich kids wrecking race cars. A tale as old as the sport itself, eh?

Josh Williams DNFs, Shane van Gisbergen wins

While things didn’t go well for Josh Williams, his teammate was lights out. From the start of the weekend, practice and qualifying all the way to the checkered flag – the race was about the 97 car. Shane van Gisbergen.

SVG won the first stage of the race and then lost track position. It was a game throughout the evening. It didn’t help that his crew chief missed the pit call at the end of Stage 2 that gave him bad track position again.

However, in the final stage with the race on the line, it felt like it was inevitable. Even if Austin Hill had the lead late, it felt like SVG was right there waiting to make a move. Really, it felt like he was just going to overtake him regardless of if the race went green or not.

Shane van Gisbergen gets the win for Kaulig Racing. Josh Williams ended with a DNF. AJ Allmendinger ended the night P17. Up and down for the organization, but SVG gets the ultimate prize to make it all worth it in the end.
