After showing off the return of the old-school DEI No. 8 font, JR Motorsports has revealed Sammy Smith’s first paint scheme. This is a new chapter in the long, storied history of this number in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Sammy Smith has long had sponsorship from Pilot Flying J, a chain of gas stations and travel centers. You see them all along the highway when you go on a road trip.

Smith is lucky in that he has backing from Pilot and TMC. So, his cars don’t change much from week to week. He has very recognizable paint schemes. This newest one, his first featuring the Dale Jr. No. 8 on the door, is great.

Sponsor is forward, bold, and recognizable, but the No. 8 does not get lost here. JR Motorsports knows how to make a simple, effective, and pleasing design.

If we look closely we can see a new JR Motorsports logo as well. JRM appears to be going through a rebranding of sorts. Could we see the other number fonts change for the 2025 season?

Next season the organization will field the 1, 7, 8, and 88 cars full-time. Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch will join Justin Allgaier and Sammy Smith at JRM next season. That is a stacked lineup.

It is going to be so good seeing the No. 8 back on the track as it should be. With the number leaning forward, looking mean and fast, and just like we all remember it from our childhoods.

JR Motorsports ready for new season

It is going to be hard to ignore JR Motorsports in 2025. Justin Allgaier is the defending champ. Sammy Smith is carrying the DEI 8 on his car now. Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch might run away with the Rookie of the Year race and be championship contenders in year one.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series is poised for a big season overall. With a new broadcast partner in The CW, every race will be in the same place for fans to watch. No wondering where you have to go for the race in the summer versus the fall. It’s all on one channel, every race of the season.

That kind of consistency is huge. The CW is well aware that the Xfinity Series is going to bring a loyal viewer base. That is why they wanted to partner with NASCAR in the first place. With a growing sports portfolio and being an over-the-air channel, there is a huge potential audience to grab next season.

JR Motorsports has the talent. They will have two of the best rookies in the series. The defending champ. And, the No. 8 back to looking how it did when Martin Truex Jr. was winning his Xfinity Series championships.
