JuJu Smith-Schuster will not return to Sunday’s game for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Denver Broncos with a shoulder injury. Smith-Schuster took a handoff on an end around and took on a big hit from Broncos safety Kareem Jackson.

Smith-Schuster appeared to be favoring his right shoulder as he was slowly helped off the field by Steelers trainers. He was in visible pain as he walked off.

Smith-Schuster did not have a reception and was targeted once before suffering his injury for the Steelers. He did have two carries for six yards in the game. The Steelers have since ruled Smith-Schuster out for the rest of the game, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Smith-Schuster is one of many injuries piling up on offense for the Steelers

Last week, Smith-Schuster suffered a rib injury earlier in the season, so this isn’t the first time he has had to leave a game due to injury. Pittsburgh is already without wide receiver James Washington this week, and Chase Claypool also joined Washington and Smith-Schuster on the injury report in the days ahead of Sunday’s game. The Steelers signed receiver Cody White to their 53-man roster earlier in the week in wake of the injuries.

Entering the weekend, Smith-Schuster trailed Diontae Johnson and Claypool in receiving on the year for the Steelers. Smith-Schuster was tied for third on the team with 14 receptions and is fourth on the team with 129 yards receiving. He has yet to find the end zone yet this season.

With multiple receivers banged up, even more pressure is on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger is banged up himself, and he has seen serious struggles this season. On the year, Roethlisberger has completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,033 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The Steelers entered the weekend with a 1-3 record, sitting at the bottom of the AFC North division. The Steelers led the Broncos 17-6 at halftime without Smith-Schuster.
