JuJu Smith Schuster takes shot at Steelers following visit to Dallas Cowboys stadium

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster visited the Dallas Cowboys stadium Wednesday. He called the facility “amazing.”

“It’s unbeatable,” Smith-Schuster said. “The Steelers are still working on trying to get out of the wooden locker rooms. And over here, it’s very prestige. Oh, they’ll definitely hear this. I want them (the Steelers) to hear this.”

Smith-Schuster said he will “most likely” become an unrestricted free agent when his rookie contract expires on March 16. Just like the Steelers wide receiver, Dallas’ Michael Gallup, Cedrick Wilson, Malik Turner and Noah Brown are due to become unrestricted free agents on March 16.

So, what does the USC product think of the Cowboys and their quarterback Dak Prescott?

“He’s a great quarterback,” Smith-Schuster said. “Catching balls from him in a facility like this, I wouldn’t mind it. He has some good guys around him, a great team, a great organization. So you never know.”

The thought goes both ways, though Prescott was careful about how he answered the same question regarding the Pittsburgh wide receiver.

“I mean, yeah, for sure,” Prescott said. “I don’t want to cause any tampering or anything. We’re at 7-Eleven today. But obviously, a great player. Just getting to know him away from the game, yeah, he’s going to be a great player, wherever he is.”

The 2021-22 season marked the end of an era in the Steelers organization. Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement following Pittsburgh’s wild card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Over the course of his career, Roethlisberger threw for 64,088 yards, 418 touchdowns and 211 interceptions. He also added 1,373 rushing yards – mostly in his younger years — and 20 more touchdowns.

“Coming in at 20 years and him being the vet that he is, he took me under his wings,” Smith-Schuster said. “The past five years, I’m very thankful for him and what he’s done with his career. As of right now, he’s probably going to be the best father, the best husband, the best man for his family, and I wish him nothing but the best.”

With the departure of Roethlisberger and the uncertainty surrounding the Steelers immediate future, it begs the question — does Smith-Schuster want to be a part of a rebuild? Or compete for a perennial playoff team like the Cowboys?

We won’t know the answer to that question until the his rookie contract expires in mid-March, but it seems that he’s already weighing his options heading into the sixth season of his NFL career.
