WATCH: Julio Jones opens up about how Tom Brady recruited him to Tampa Bay
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed wide receiver Julio Jones today to a one year, $6 million deal with a max value of $8 million. In his first press conference with the Buccaneers, when he was asked about what his conversations with quarterback Tom Brady were like prior to his arrival Jones joked simply saying, “that’s confidential.”
“Tom’s a great guy man, who you want to be leading your ball club, who you want to play for, so I’ll take it as far as that,” Jones added.
Jones is coming off of a one year stint with the Tennessee Titans where he appeared in 10 games, battling a hamstring injury for a majority of the season, and brought in 31 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown.
“I talked to him, I talked to Tom several times but we were just talking, it wasn’t really about coming to Tampa, we were just communicating, you know just feeling each other out I guess, it probably was a tactic, but I don’t know, I’m here,” Jones said.

Jones is a 33 year old veteran and 7 time Pro Bowler, with his most recent Pro Bowl and All Pro season being in just 2019. Injuries have definitely gotten the best of Jones in the last couple season, but the Buccaneers are hoping him and Brady’s veteran leadership and experience can help lead them to another Super Bowl.
“Nah but like I said, Tom is a humble guy, great energy, you know what you’re getting out of him. It’s kind of like, when I talk to him I’m talking to myself in a way, just with the leadership, what we expect, things like that,” Jones said. “We’re on the same page, and how we hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard than probably most do. But all in all, we talked a little bit and I’m a leave it at that.”
