Julio Jones snags first TD of the season to help Eagles close out Commanders
The Philadelphia Eagles got a timely boost from veteran wide receiver Julio Jones on Sunday versus the Washington Commanders. Trailing their divisional rivals in the fourth quarter, Jones caught his lone pass of the day – an eight-yard touchdown – from quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The touchdown grab extended the former Falcons scoring streak in the NFL to 13 seasons. Jones played his first 10 seasons with Atlanta before bouncing around from Tennessee to Tampa Bay and finally, Philadelphia.
The scoring snag was also just Jones’ second reception this season. Making his debut in Week 7 against Miami, he caught a ball for a gain of three yards in the 31-17 win.
The Eagles signed Jones after losing their first game of the year against the Jets and placing Quez Watkins on injured reserve.
Though his production has tailed off in the last three seasons, the former Crimson Tide star adds a veteran option to Hurts’ room of weapons. In 2015, he led the league in catches and yards and led the league in yards again in 2018.
Over the course of his career with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jones has 903 catches, 13,629 yards, 63 touchdowns and 15.1 yards per catch. His career highs came in 2015 with 136 catches and 1,871 yards. Jones scored a career-high in touchdowns (10) in 2012, his second year in the league.

A.J. Brown posts career day for Eagles
Another SEC alum, Eagles star A.J. Brown made history on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. He became the first player in league history with 125 receiving yards or more in six straight games. He broke a record previously set by Calvin Johnson, whose Hall of Fame career included the most receiving yards (5,137) over a three-season stretch in NFL history.
After the Eagles’ seventh win of the season, former Cowboys star Michael Irvin had high praise for Brown. He posted: “That dude AJ Brown with the @Eagles may not just be the best receiver in the @NFL, he very well may be the BEST PLAYER IN THE @NFL right now!!!!
Brown is in his fifth season and second with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Tennessee Titans drafted the all-time Rebel great in the second round (pick No. 51) of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Through Week 8, the Eagles receiver has 60 catches, 939 yards and five touchdowns.
