Earlier today in Phoenix, Justin Allgaier was caught up in the fluid of another car and wrecked his primary car for the championship race. The NASCAR Xfinity Series championship race has already been changed in a major way.

Not only is Justin Allgaier in a backup car, the JR Motorsports driver is doing it in the biggest race of the year. Going up against Austin Hill, AJ Allmendinger, and Cole Custer from the rear in the secondary car won’t be easy.

After his wreck, Allgaier was frustrated. He took those frustrations out on a toolbox. He cooled off and then spoke to the media about his chaotic time on track and in the garage.

“Like balance wise I feel really good about where we’re at. You know, everything is, you know you’re in a rush, right?” Allgaier said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

“You’re literally throwing stuff on there. Tire pressures were close but they were exact, you’re, you know we didn’t have time to get the brakes up to temperature. All those things. So, you know, it’s not perfect but I feel like we did a great job of getting where we needed to get to and I have no doubt tomorrow we’re going to be just as fast.”

Justin Allgaier and his team were able to get the backup ready quickly. It wasn’t perfect, but they put the backup on the track before practice ended. Aric Almirola, in the same situation, also had his backup on track making laps before the session was over.

Justin Allgaier picked a fight with a toolbox

He also directly addressed his outburst in the garage. Nothing major, but definitely out of character for Justin Allgaier.

“I feel like y’all know me pretty well and I got in a fight with a toolbox. So, I don’t feel like that’s characteristic of me normally,” Allgaier said when asked about his emotions by Jeff Gluck of The Athletic. “So, you know, they’re obviously high, they’re frustrating they’re – especially when it’s out of your control. Like, you drive down into Turn 3 expecting everything to be status quo and it’s not. And what five or six of us all hit the wall?

“So, two of the Championship 4 or 5, however you want to call it, are in it. Yeah, it’s frustrating it makes you want to rip somebody’s head off, right? But at the end of the day, these are the cards we’re dealt. We’re going to go after it and not really much else we can do other than make sure this race car is better than the other three.”

Allgaier had more to say in the video below.

Unfortunately, Justin Allgaier is going to have a hard time on Saturday night. The fact his team got his backup on the track and with laps under it is impressive.e That data will only go to help them get this car setup just as fast as the primary.

Does Allgaier have a chance tomorrow? Or are his title hopes dashed before the green flag?
