Justin Allgaier steals Homestead-Miami Xfinity Series race after Sam Mayer runs into Kyle Larson

With an overtime restart gifted to him by a late spin, Justin Allgaier went out and stole the NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Prior to the caution, Kyle Larson had all but the top-five drivers at least a lap down.

Of course, when it came to the final restart, Kyle Larson was screwed over. You can’t really say anything else about it. Mayer got into the back of Larson so hard that his back tires were off the ground before he tried to launch.

Credit to Justin Allgaier. He was there and waiting to take advantage. Take advantage he did. With Mayer taking Larson out of the equation, Allgaier raced around Austin Hill and put the 7 car in Victory Lane once again.

Allgaier walks away with the win, the Xfinity fastest lap, and the Dash 4 Cash $100,000 cash prize. Talk about a steal, he ran away with the kitchen sink!

Kyle Larson started the weekend hoping to sweep all three races. He will have to settle for winning two at most now. Justin Allgaier went out and won this race, his second of the season, but the real talk is about Mayer and Larson.

Kyle Larson blames Sam Mayer after Justin Allgaier win

Before the last caution that sent the race to overtime, Kyle Larson was putting the belt to this field. Last night in the Truck Series race he had to fight for it. Today, he put all but the top five drivers a lap down. Dominance on another level.

On pit road, Larson was clearly frustrated. He talked about the restart after the race.

“I don’t know, I’ve lived through it a number of times here,” Larson said. “Obviously, a bummer, again, to have another Homestead race play out that way. Yeah, I can’t go when my rear tires are off the ground. So, I know it looks like I choked another one away, but I did everything I thought I could.

“The 41 just lagged back and slammed the shit out of me and [picked my tires off the ground]. Bummer but cool to have as big of a lead as we had. I would love to get a win for everybody in the 17 car. You know, they don’t get to race all the time, so it’s good. So, it’s good we can run up front like we did today. I got one more opportunity in this thing later on here in a few weeks. So, we’ll see if we can get it done then.”

Again, all the credit to Justin Allgaier and his team. They stayed in this thing until the very end. That is what it takes in this sport sometimes. Being right place right time. It isn’t always the fastest car and the best driver who wins.
