On the final lap at Michigan, Justin Allgaier wins under caution as Kyle Sieg flips on the last lap of the Cabo Wabo 250. This NASCAR overtime finish didn’t quite make it to the line as the field wrecked on the backstretch on the white flag lap.
Justin Allgaier gets his second win of the season. He won at Darlington earlier in 2024. Today, Allgaier led the most laps on his way to the win. He is on a top-10 streak that dates back to New Hampshire.
You hate to see Sieg flip on the backstretch. Thankfully his car came to a stop on its wheels. He will head to the care center and be evaluated.
This race didn’t provide the most exciting action. But as it usually does, the Xfinity Series delivered when it mattered most. Justin Allgaier had to hold on at the end of this race, hope his fuel got him to the end, and he accomplished that goal.
Gator is firmly in the Xfinity Series championship hunt. This is his fifth straight season with multiple wins.
Rain interrupted the first stage, Ryan Sieg won it
Now, this is how you tie the storylines of a race together in a nice neat bow. Going back to the first stage, there was a red flag for rain. It slowed up the race for nine minutes or so. But racing returned after a short break.
In a strong showing for his family-run team, Ryan Sieg had a great first stage. He won the stage, his second of the year, and helped maintain his hold onto the backend of the Xfinity Series Playoffs.
Drivers were mostly figuring out this package in the first stage. Superspeedway setups on these cars, so they were limited on speed. That didn’t help the passing or on-track action, but it wasn’t the worst racing product ever.
Riley Herbst was not clear, JHN takes the stage
Things picked up in the second stage. There wasn’t a lot of action and wrecks and all of that. However, we did see spins by Austin Hill and others. Caution flags came out and gave teams decisions to make as far as tires and fuel were concerned.
Riley Herbst was running well to start the day. He pulled out of line and attempted to jump back in ahead of Ryan Sieg. When he did, his spotter told him he was clear. But he wasn’t.

The 98 went across the nose of the 39 and wrecked itself into the wall. It was a nasty right rear hook, but Herbst brought it upon himself. Tough end to his day.
Meanwhile, John Hunter Nemechek drove to the front and took the stage win. It was a good stage out of the 20 car that has been so good all year with various drivers.
Justin Allgaier wins, Sheldon Creed makes history
With the finish of this race, Justin Allgaier not only picks up his second win of the season. He also now has more career Xfinity Series wins than his boss, Dale Jr. However, other history was made as well with this finish.
Sheldon Creed has now finished P2 eleven different times. That is the most runner-up finishes in the series without a win by any driver ever. He had been tied at ten with Dale Jarrett and Daniel Hemric.
Another heartbreaker for Creed who was hoping to build a run strong enough to beat Allgaier to the line. But another top-5 finish as well. No one likes to points race, especially a driver looking for their first career win, but he’s not in a bad position.
Justin Allgaier is the big winner. Gator gets it done in Michigan for the first time and he’s happy to burn it down for the fans in the stands afterward.
