Justin Fields breaks quarterback rushing record in loss to Dolphins
Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields had one of the best games of his young career thus far on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Fields absolutely tormented the Dolphins defenders all day long on the ground, rushing for 178 yards, the most ever by an NFL quarterback during the regular season.
Check out the tweet below from CBS Sports.
The Bears lost to the Dolphins on Sunday in a 35-32 classic, but it was certainly one of the best games of the 2022 NFL season. As a passer, Fields completed 17 of 28 passes for 123 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns and no interceptions.
The only previous player with 150-plus rushing yards and 2-plus rushing touchdowns in a single game was Hall-of-Famer Walter Payton in 1983 for the Chicago Bears vs. the New Orleans Saints. Fields also became the first player since 1950 with 150-plus rushing yards and 3-plus passing touchdowns in a single game, per NFL Research.
Bears fans are hoping Sunday’s historic performance is just the beginning of many more to come for the young star.

Chicago needs to get Justin Fields some help
Chicago clearly needs to get help in a number of areas in order to build around Fields, including a better offensive line and some better wide receivers. But today’s performance was a big step in the right direction for his career trajectory. Chicago just recently traded away two of their most talented defenders, Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn, so they are in rebuild mode on the defensive side of the football, too. If they can surround him with the proper pieces, he has an excellent future in the National Football League.
Their defense had the same problem that every other defense in the league has had problems with this year–figuring out ways to stop Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Hill hauled in seven catches for 143 receiving yards and a touchdown. Waddle hauled in five catches for 85 receiving yards and a touchdown. Tua Tagovailoa once again had another excellent performance, completing over 70 percent of his passes for 302 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns and no interceptions.
