Update provided on Justin Fields' injury
According to Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer, Justin Fields is heading to the hospital to not only have his ribs checked out but also his spleen. The rookie quarterback left Sunday’s game during the loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Fields was struggling before his injury, only completing four of his 11 passes. He had thrown for 79 yards. The former Ohio State Buckeye has 23 rushing yards as well on four attempts.
Andy Dalton was inserted into the game during the third quarter, nearly leading the Bears to a come-from-behind victory. Instead undrafted free agent quarterback Tyler Huntley won the game for Baltimore.
After the game, head coach Matt Nagy was asked who would be the starting quarterback, assuming Fields was healthy. Chicago has a quick turnaround, playing against the Lions in Detroit on Thanksgiving morning.
“I have no idea,” Nagy said. “I’ll have to find out. We’ll start getting into some of that later on.”
Fields has been the starter for eight consecutive games after Dalton went down with an injury. He’s completed 59.4% of his throws, throwing for 1,282 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. On the ground, Fields 288 yards and two touchdowns.

The Bears are currently 3-6 on the season, sitting in third place in the NFC North. While looking ahead to the NFL draft may be the mindset of most fans in this situation, Chicago traded away their 2021 first-round pick to move up to select Fields.
Winning against Detroit on Thursday will be the first step in attempting to turn around the season, with or without Fields.
Fields has seen mixed results since becoming the Bears starting quarterback
Andy Dalton initially won the Bears starting quarterback job, but it didn’t take long for Fields to take over. Since he did take over, Fields has been inconsistent but has shown flashes of his potential. Entering Sunday’s game, Fields had completed 59.4 percent of his passes for 1,282 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has also rushed 52 times for 288 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 29 sacks.
Fields struggled when initially taking over as the Bears quarterback, but the former Ohio State star has played well over the previous two weeks. On Halloween against the 49ers, he threw for 175 yards, one touchdown and one interception but added 103 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Two weeks ago, he threw for 291 yards and added 45 more in a close loss to the Steelers.
