WATCH: Justin Fields shows off strength, hits home run at Wrigley Field
Justin Fields: Two-sport athlete? He sure looked the part Thursday as the Chicago Bears took batting practice at Wrigley Field.
Fields hit a home run into the left field bleachers — and his teammates reacted accordingly. Running back Khalil Herbert captured the moment on video, and it was as awesome as you’d expect.
The Bears were able to use the stadium because the Cubs are in New York getting ready for a series against the Yankees. It’s unclear if the Cubs have reached out about asking Fields to suit up and help out as they take on a powerful Yankees lineup.
What’s at stake for Justin Fields in Year Two
Fields is getting ready for his second year with Chicago, which saw sweeping changes after last year. The Bears fired both general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy after a 6-11 campaign in 2021, which also saw Fields go 2-8 as a starter.

Now, Ryan Poles is in at general manager and former Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is the head coach. Since Eberflus has a defensive background, Chicago hired former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy to try and help Fields develop into the quarterback of the future Bears fans have been wanting for years.
He’s shown he can do it, too. Fields starred at Ohio State after transferring from Georgia and helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship appearance in 2020. In two years with the Buckeyes, Fields threw for 5,373 yards and 63 touchdowns before heading to the NFL.
Chicago traded up with the New York Giants to select Fields No. 11 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He showed flashes of his abilities last year, but with a new coaching staff in town, Fields’ development is probably the biggest storyline for the Bears as the prepare for the 2022 season.
