Justin Fields thumb injury update: X-rays negative, will undergo MRI on dislocated thumb per report
Bears quarterback Justin Fields apparently tried to play through the pain, but it just didn’t work on Sunday. Per NFL on FOX‘s Jay Glazer, the Chicago gunslinger suffered a dislocated thumb in this weekend’s loss to the Vikings.
Per Glazer, Fields suffered the dislocated thumb and popped it back into place. He tried to play through the injury, but could not grip the football. Initial X-rays came back negative but the quarterback will have to undergo an MRI to find out the severity of the damage.
Prior to his exit, Fields completed 6-of-10 passes for 58 yards with an interception. He also rushed for 46 yards on eight carries. Tyson Bagent replaced the former Ohio State standout following the injury.
Bagent threw for 83 yards and a pick while completing 10-of-14 throws. He also had a rushing touchdown. The Bears lost a 19-13 decision to the Vikings to fall to 1-5 on the year.
Fields, a first-round selection by the Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft, is in his third season in Chicago. After Sunday’s loss to Minnesota, he now owns a 6-25 record as a starting quarterback in the league.
Fields, Moore shined in Bears first win vs. Commanders
After an atrocious 0-4 start to the season, Chicago finally got something rolling offensively in Week 5. The Bears traveled to Washington and registered a 40-20 victory over the Commanders to get their first win of the year.
Fields completed 15-of-29 pass attempts for 282 yards with four touchdowns and no picks in the impressive outing. More impressively? Most of his throws went in the direction of receiver DJ Moore.

Moore had an incredible day, totaling 230 yards and three touchdowns on eight catches. He averaged just under 29 yards per reception. The only other player to catch a touchdown pass in the win was Cole Kmet — who ended the game with five catches for 42 yards.
After that outing, some thought maybe the Bears might be able to carry that momentum into the following week. But it didn’t work. Fields’ injury didn’t help matters as Chicago was handed its fifth loss of the year.
So, we’ll keep an eye out for an update on the quarterback and what his status will be moving forward.
Next week, Chicago is back at Soldier Field for a matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Kickoff has been set for 1 p.m. ET and the game airs on FOX.
