WATCH: Justin Thomas gives NSFW reaction on 18th hole at The Open

It’s been a rough couple of days at the 150th version of The Open at St. Andrews for former Alabama star Justin Thomas. While he will be playing this weekend (he finished at 2-under for the first two days), it wasn’t without some frustrating shots that made him visibly angry and drop some curse words. On Thursday, he topped his drive on the 18th hole. Thomas later took to Twitter to explain what happened.

Couldn’t decide if 3w was too much on 18 or if it was a flat 5w. Seemed like a perfect 5w downwind. Cold topped it. Landed short if the burn. Had 125 in. Nice #onward

After he topped his shot on the 18th hole on Thursday, Irish golfer Shane Lowry noticed a big improvement on Friday’s drive. Check out his reaction to some playful banter.

In Round 1 on Thursday, Thomas carded an even par 72. In Round 2 on Friday, he carded a 2-under 70 to ensure he’d be playing the weekend at St. Andrews Old Course. The cut line was even par. Thomas’ ball-striking is among the best on the planet when he’s playing well, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can make a move during the weekend.

He’ll have to get it rolling and, in a hurry, as he currently sits 11 strokes back from the leader, Cameron Smith of Australia, who sits at 13-under heading into the weekend. Even if Thomas comes up empty handed this weekend, he can still chalk this season up to a success after he brought home the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills a few months ago.

He’s now got two majors to his name–with both of them being PGA Championship trophies. Thomas won his first back in 2017 at Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Then, the second came this year at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The former Alabama star won at Southern Hills despite trailing by seven strokes heading into his final round. It was the largest comeback in a major championship since Paul Lawrie was down by ten strokes entering the final round of the 1999 Open Championship.
