Kadarius Toney signing with Cleveland Browns after release from Kansas City Chiefs
Former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney is signing with the Cleveland Browns, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Monday.
Toney, 25, had a tryout with the Browns this past Friday and also visited with the Seattle Seahawks. He had other visits lined up but chose to sign with Cleveland. He joins a crowded receiver room which includes Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash and Jaelon Darden.
Toney’s tenure in Kansas City came to an end after less than two years after the Chiefs waived him on Aug. 27 ahead of the 53-man roster cutdown. The New York Giants’ first round (20th overall) selection out of Florida, Toney had an encouraging rookie campaign, hauling in 39 receptions for 420 yards in 10 games (four starts). He missed time with an oblique injury and a COVID-19 diagnosis. He sustained a hamstring injury in Week 2 the following season which caused him to miss five games.

Kadarius Toney finds new NFL home in Cleveland
Toney fell out of favor in 2023, struggling with drops throughout the season. He once again struggled with injuries, undergoing knee surgery before the season and later dealing with hip and ankle injuries. Toney was inactive for the entirety of the postseason, listed with an injury designation. He made headlines in late January, however, when he claimed in an Instagram live video that the Chiefs were lying about his injury status.
“Man, that sh*t cap,” Toney said. “I’m not hurt. None of that sh*t. Save that sh*t.”
Toney was once again inactive during the Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
