Kadarius Toney has tryout with Cleveland Browns
As Week 1 gets underway around the NFL, Kadarius Toney is still looking to get on a roster. However, he had a tryout on Friday just over a week after the Kansas City Chiefs waived him.
Toney had a tryout with the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. He previously visited the Seattle Seahawks after Kansas City failed to find a trade partner.
Toney spent less than two seasons with Kansas City after coming over in a trade from the New York Giants. In 2023, he totaled 169 yards and a touchdown as he struggled to find his footing in the Chiefs’ offense as they made a run to a second straight Super Bowl victory.
The Giants selected Toney with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida. He appeared in 10 games as a rookie, hauling in 39 receptions for 420 yards during that time, but New York traded him to Kansas City midway through the 2022 season.

Toney fell out of favor in 2023, struggling with drops throughout the season. He once again struggled with injuries, undergoing knee surgery before the season and later dealing with hip and ankle injuries. Toney was inactive for the entirety of the postseason, listed with an injury designation. He made headlines in late January, however, when he claimed in an Instagram live video that the Chiefs were lying about his injury status.
“Man, that sh*t cap,” Toney said. “I’m not hurt. None of that sh*t. Save that sh*t.”
Toney was once again inactive during the Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers. It marked Kansas City’s second straight title.
During training camp this year, Kadarius Toney got some looks at running back as he looked to keep a role with the Chiefs. The franchise was also looking at potential trade partners, but failed to find one, which led to the decision to waive him. However, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted Toney was expected to have a market on the waiver wire.
