The Buffalo Bills addressed their secondary in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, selecting former Florida Gators cornerback Kaiir Elam with the No. 23 overall pick. Elam has already made quite the impression in Buffalo, and he has stood out to his new running mate in the secondary in star cornerback Tre’Davious White.

Elam said that he first met White in a pre-draft visit to the Bills, and they exchanged numbers then. Now, Elam is trying to learn anything and everything he can from White.

“When I first came up here in my top 30 visit, Tre’Davious White gave me his number, told me to reach out to him any time,” Elam said. “So I’ve been trying to pick his brain and learn as much as I can about the league. But now I’m trying to learn as much as I can from him about being a player and about Buffalo. I’m sure I’m gonna try to build that bond, that relationship and just learn as much as I can from him. I can’t wait to meet the rest of the guys, but that’s the only player I’ve met in Buffalo.”

In three years at Florida, Elam totaled 78 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions, 20 passes defended, and one fumble recovery.

Elam had hilarious response in Bills press conference after drawing comparison to White

After opening up on his relationship with White, Elam seemed to be a little bit starstruck after being told that White said that he saw a lot of himself in Elam. White is a two-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro in 2019. He has 16 interceptions and 60 passes defended in five years with the Bills. So when he put himself in the conversation with Elam, the new Bills rookie didn’t quite know what to say.

Elam tried to state what that meant coming from White, but after about a minute of stuttering, he eventually paused and said “No comment.”

“So I’ve only met Tre two times, and for him to say that, I think that’s a big – I would just say I appreciate him saying that,” said Elam. “But it’s still a lot that I would like to show and prove and I think that’s a big accompli – I mean I’m stuck on this question right here. Sorry about that. Sorry, but I don’t know what to say. No comment at this point.”
