As NFL Championship week gets going, all eyes are on Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes and his ailing ankle. Chiefs fans got some welcome news after Wednesday’s practice.

Mahomes was a full participant on Wednesday and only Mecole Hardman was limited, the team announced. That’s a great sign after he was seen hobbling and limping following a high ankle sprain on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chiefs held on to defeat the Jaguars 27-20 in the game, sending Kansas City to the AFC Championship, but Mahomes’ health remains a concern in the days leading up to the matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

After Mahomes left the game, Chad Henne came in to replace him and led a touchdown drive. But Mahomes — somehow — returned and helped make sure Kansas City came away with the victory. Mahomes finished the day completing 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns while Henne threw for one on his lone drive of the game.

The AFC Championship between the Chiefs and Bengals is scheduled for Sunday at 6 p.m. ET at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

MRI confirms Patrick Mahomes suffered ‘high ankle sprain’ vs. Jaguars

Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain during the Kansas City Chief’s 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional round, MRI results reveal, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.

He plans to play in the AFC Championship next Sunday, per another of Schefter’s sources.

Mahomes left Saturday’s game in the first half after injuring his ankle. He was visibly frustrated before being taken back to the locker room for an x-ray that would eventually come back negative. He would start the second half — albeit with a heavily taped ankle — and finish the game for Kansas City with 22 completions for 195 yards and two touchdowns.
