The Kansas City Chiefs and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes reached an agreement on Monday to restructure his contract through 2026, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. He will now make $210.6 million, fully guaranteed, from 2023 to 2026. It is the largest sum for a player over a four-year stretch.
According to Schefter, the Chiefs plan to “re-visit” the contract again after the 2026 season. The quarterback’s deal was originally for 10 years, $450 million, which he signed in 2020. Kansas City opted to pay the star the chunk of change after he went through his rookie deal and his fifth-year option.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are still riding high from a big Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former Texas Tech Red Raider had 305 passing yards, two touchdowns, an interception, and 30 rushing yards in the 17-9 win.
Before the start of the season, Joe Burrow reached an agreement with the Cincinnati Bengals on a 5-year, $275 million extension that includes $219.01 million guaranteed. It made him the highest-paid player in NFL history at the time.
Last season, Mahomes capped off his sixth year in the NFL with his second Super Bowl championship. The only quarterback to top 5,000 passing yards in the regular season, the former Texas Tech star also added another 703 passing yards in the postseason.

Mahomes stands by Kadarius Toney
Patrick Mahomes proved to be a man of his word on Sunday, going right back to wide receiver Kadarius Toney after the former Gator had a rough outing in Week 1. The QB and wideout connected for five catches on five targets for 35 yards in the win over the Jaguars.
Last week, Mahomes insisted Toney’s Week 1 performance was a fluke and he proved his trust in him by giving him the ball in crucial moments on Sunday.
“Stuff’s not always going to go your way, obviously. He would’ve wanted to catch a few of those in the game,” Mahomes said of Toney last week. “But I have trust that he’s gonna be that guy that I go to in those crucial moments, and he’s gonna make the catch and win us some seasons like he did last year. So we’re gonna continue to work him in, get him more and more reps, and I’m sure those drops will kind of disappear.”
