Kansas City Chiefs trading OL Joe Thuney to Chicago Bears

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to trade All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Wednesday.
Kansas City will receive a 2026 fourth round pick in exchange for Thuney, one of the NFL‘s best offensive linemen. The Chiefs are moving on from Thuney to free up cap space, with center Creed Humphrey making big money and a new deal for right guard Trey Smith on the way. Kansas City clears $16 million in cap space. Thuney, entering the final year of his five-year, $80 million deal, will likely sign a new extension in Chicago.
Thuney, 32, is coming off back-to-back First-Team All-Pro seasons in Kansas City. A four-time Super Bowl champion, Thuney has allowed just seven sacks in the last five seasons, including zero in 2024. In 1,115 snaps last season, Thuney was flagged just once. His 98 percent pass block win rate was first among all interior offensive lineman.

Caleb Williams has to love that, as the 2024 No. 1 overall pick was sacked a league-high 68 times for 466 yards last season. Rebuilding the offensive line was top priority entering the offseason for general manager Ryan Poles, and he’s wasted no time in being aggressive.

Poles acquired Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, parting ways with a 2025 sixth round pick. Jackson, 28, started 40 games at left guard with Detroit Lions, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2021. He signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Rams last offseason. Jackson played in just four games this past season at right guard and center.
He missed time after fracturing his scapula in Week 2. Jackson played in just one game after returning from injured reserve and was then benched. Pro Football Focus gave him a 67.5 grade across 266 snaps.
