Kansas City Chiefs waiving WR Kadarius Toney
The Kansas City Chiefs are waiving receiver Kadarius Toney, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Tuesday.
Toney’s tumultuous tenure in Kansas City comes to an end after less than two years, and he’ll now look for his third home since entering the NFL in 2021. Rapoport noted that Toney is expected to have a market on the waiver wire.
Toney, 25, was the New York Giants’ first round (20th overall) selection out of Florida. He had an encouraging rookie campaign, hauling in 39 receptions for 420 yards in 10 games (four starts). He missed time with an oblique injury and a COVID-19 diagnosis. He sustained a hamstring injury in Week 2 the following season which caused him to miss five games.
The Giants traded him midseason to the Chiefs in exchange for a third and sixth round pick. He made his mark in the Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles, setting a Super Bowl record with his 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter.

Kadarius Toney searching for third team since 2021
Toney fell out of favor in 2023, struggling with drops throughout the season. He once again struggled with injuries, undergoing knee surgery before the season and later dealing with hip and ankle injuries. Toney was inactive for the entirety of the postseason, listed with an injury designation. He made headlines in late January, however, when he claimed in an Instagram live video that the Chiefs were lying about his injury status.

“Man, that sh*t cap,” Toney said. “I’m not hurt. None of that sh*t. Save that sh*t.”
Toney was once again inactive during the Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
The Chiefs added to their receiver room this offseason, making Toney’s spot on the roster unsecured. In addition to the upstart Rashee Rice and Mecole Hardman among others, Kansas City brought in Hollywood Brown in free agency and drafted Xavier Worthy in the first round. Kansas City signed JuJu Smith-Schuster Monday, a member of their Super Bowl-winning team in 2022.
Toney’s Chiefs career ends with 41 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games (five starts).
