A noted Philadelphia Eagles fan, Karl-Anthony Towns showcased his fandom Wednesday night as the New York Knicks took on the 76ers. Teammate Jalen Brunson supported the decision – although Towns appeared to change his mind.

Towns showed up to the Wells Fargo Center in a Kelly green Eagles sweater ahead of the team’s NFL Divisional Round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend. Brunson, who’s also an Eagles fan, emphatically co-signed the move even though the Knicks were in Philadelphia.

“Absolutely,” Brunson told ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth.

However, at halftime, Towns reversed course. He walked out of the locker room in a Knicks shirt as New York looked to extend its 60-47 lead at the break, and Hubbarth wondered if he heard the reaction to his fashion choice.

The Knicks and 76ers eventually went to overtime as Philadelphia mounted a second-half comeback. But New York eventually came out with the win, 125-119, after outscoring the 76ers 16-10 in the extra period.

Towns is out of the lineup due to a thumb injury suffered Monday against the Detroit Pistons, and ESPN’s Tim McMahon reported he suffered a bone chip, as well. It’s unclear when he’ll be able to return to the court after the injury was originally deemed a sprain.

Through his first season with the Knicks, Towns has been impressive. He was averaging 25.4 points and a team-high 13.6 rebounds at the time of his injury after reuniting with Tom Thibodeau, who was his head coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2016-19.

The Knicks will play again Friday against the Atlanta Hawks before welcoming the Timberwolves for a Monday game at Madison Square Garden. That will allow Karl-Anthony Towns to watch the Eagles take on the Rams Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. The winner will then advance to the NFC Championship against the winner of the Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commanders game.

Philadelphia put together a complete performance against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round on Sunday to come away with the 22-10 victory. The Eagles picked off Jordan Love three times and got 119 yards from Saquon Barkley to advance in the playoffs. Jalen Hurts was also efficient, completing 13 of 21 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns – including an impressive score from Dallas Goedert, who fought off multiple defenders.
