Karl Malone makes $5 million selling Michael Jordan, Dream Team gear at auction
Lately, Karl Malone hasn’t received the same love from NBA fans he once garnered. Luckily for Malone, his Dream Team teammate Michael Jordan is still a hot commodity.
On Thursday, Malone sold a jersey worn by Michael Jordan in the 1992 Olympics for $3.03 million. Jordan inscribed the No. 9 jersey with a message to Malone, reading “To Karl, good luck.” Evidently, the small fortune was closer to Malone’s heart than the kind message.
Jordan’s game-worn jersey wasn’t the only piece of memorabilia Malone sold. The two-time NBA MVP also auctioned off Larry Bird and Charles Barkley game-worn jerseys, each of which sold for over $200,000.
While Malone was the one who decided to put the desired items up for auction, he wasn’t the one who initially acquired the jerseys. In a clip posted by Goldin on Twitter, Malone revealed his wife was the one who happened to grab the priceless items.

“As much as I would like to take the credit, after we opened [the locker room] up for families, jerseys were just kind of laying in the floor,” Malone said. “My wife just started going and picking up the jerseys.”
Quite the happy, little accident. In total, Malone auctioned off 24 items from the Dream Team to net $5 million, as reported by Darren Rovell at the Action Network. The money will be extra income for the NBA legend, who now owns and runs car and powersport dealerships in Utah.
