Today, Kasey Kahne is set to make his NASCAR return. He will start today’s Xfinity Series race at Rockingham in P4. Making his start in the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevy with HendrickCars.com sponsorship – will we see Kahne win this evening?

This weekend is all about returning. NASCAR returns to Rockingham, Kasey Kahne returns to NASCAR. It’s a great story and one that could end in Victory Lane. Kahne is the only driver in the field to have actually raced The Rock.

On the pre-race show for The CW, Kahne talked about expectations. He has a fast piece, now he has to go out and make it happen for 250 laps.

“It’s been good, it’s been pretty normal,” Kahne said of his first NASCAR weekend in seven years. “Still, had some appearances, went to the souvenir trailer, did some signings and things. Lot of fans running around here and having a good time. So, yeah, it’s neat to be here at Rockingham. I’ve seen a lot of people and the driving has been good. I’ve been really happy to be back on the track. We ran 53 laps yesterday and everything went smooth and learned a lot.”

When it comes to the race, Kasey Kahne feels good. He ran a ton of laps in practice, and he tested at Rockingham earlier this year for RCR.

“I think it does. I think it’s much different, your throttle percentage is much higher than it was then, but I feel like it’s all still in a similar part of the race track,” Kahne continued. “Lot of the bumps are still there, a lot of the same characteristics are here. So, yeah, much quicker, more grip overall, but yeah, still feels pretty normal.”

If I’m a young Xfinity Series driver, hearing Kasey Kahne say everything feels normal would send shivers down my spine. Are we about to see Kahne tap into his old stock car racing talent and show why he’s one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers?

Kasey Kahne won’t have to work his way up through the field. That is, unless he has trouble early on. But starting P4, he has a lot of clear windshield in front of him and that means he will be able to feel this track out and his car out.

If we see Kahne keep his spot in the top-five throughout the first two stages, I think anything can happen. Kahne has 9 pole awards and 8 wins in the Xfinity Series. I’m sure he’d love to equal those two numbers with a win today.
