Katherine Legge enters ARCA season-opener at Daytona with Sigma Performance Services
Known for her talents in open-wheel cars, Katherine Legge is coming back to stock cars to compete in the ARCA 200 at Daytona. Sigma Performance Services made the announcement today that they will field a car for her in the season-opener.
Sigma Performance Services had a number of drivers compete for them in 2024. Sam Mayer picked up the organization’s first-ever win with his pole award and win at Sonoma. A number of drivers performed well for the team in 2024.
This will be Sigma’s first-ever attempt to make the ARCA 200 at Daytona. The first practice sessions will be taking place for the ARCA Menards Series soon at the World Center of Racing.
Katherine Legge has qualified for the Indianapolis 500 four times in her career. In 2023 she set the record for the fastest qualifying time ever by a woman in the event. So, she’s used to high speeds.
But the banks of Daytona are different than the corners of Indianapolis.
The 44-year-old driver from Great Britain is set to get behind the wheel of an ARCA car. It will be her ARCA debut.
In her career, Katherine Legge has raced five times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Four of those races were on road courses. However, her only oval start in a stock car was at Richmond in 2018 with JD Motorsports.
It is not going to be an easy race to qualify for. There are so many teams and drivers hoping to make the ARCA 200, but not all will make the field.

Katherine Legge ready for ARCA opportunity
I’m not sure what to expect from Legge in this effort. Superspeedway racing is tough, but with her experience in IndyCar, I’m not sure she will be intimidated by the speeds of the ARCA cars.
Then again, pack racing is completely different in NASCAR than it is in IndyCar. Being able to hold a steady wheel and hold your line in the draft makes or breaks many new drivers to Daytona.
“I am beyond excited to jump back into a stock car,” Legge said, via ARCAracing.com. “I’ve done thousands of laps at Daytona but have never driven the oval. Something that is so familiar to me will also be brand new. It will be my second-ever stock car race on an oval, and I’m thrilled to be doing it with such a great team.”
Katherine Legge will have a lot of practice time. There will be learning curves. But someone who has raced in sports cars in IMSA, including at Daytona, in IndyCar, and with previous stock car experience like Legge should have an easier time with those curves than a fresh-faced 20-year-old.
