At 60 years old, Keanu Reeves has made his racing debut. He suited up for the Toyota GR Cup races this weekend at Indianapolis. Reeves, promoting his graphic novel, had an eventful first effort.

The Toyota GR Cup is a sports car racing series, a spec series. A lot of Toyota’s development drivers like Toni Breidinger, William Sawalich, and others have participated in the series.

Keanu Reeves felt it was the perfect place to get his feet wet. But it wasn’t as easy as he may have thought it would be.

Qualifying P31 of 35 cars, Reeves did everything from avoiding a crash to sliding in the grass by himself. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is not a bad place to start your racing career. After it was all said and done, Reeves finished P25.

The Toyota GR Cup is acting as a support series for the Indy 8 Hour race. To his credit, Reeves won the celebrity race as part of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach in 2009. 15 years later, he did not fair as well.

It isn’t all bad news. We will see how much Keanu Reeves learned in that first race. He has one more to go on Sunday. How fun would it be to see Reeves race in more events? Maybe even get him in a Mazda MX-5 Cup race. I bet he’d love that.

Clearly the talent in the Toyota GR Cup was more than Reeves perhaps expected. There are many levels to racing and even development drivers in a spec series can have a lot of talent behind the wheel.

Keanu Reeves living out his dreams

This year it seems that Keanu Reeves is living all of his childhood dreams. What does an actor as accomplished and celebrated as Reeves have left to do on his bucket list? Apparently racing and hockey.

Reeves has not only gotten behind the wheel of a race car this year, he signed a contract with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires earlier this year. His band, Dogstar, is playing shows around the country.

How fun would it be to show up for your regular hobby or profession and Keanu is there? Seeing a Hollywood star on the starting grid has to excite the others racing against Reeves.

With another race this weekend, do you think Keanu Reeves will improve? How much will he have learned in his debut in the Toyota GR Cup?
