Dallas police want to interview Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph regarding his role in an altercation that led to a fatal shooting in March, according to a report.

The incident occurred the same night a 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Old East Dallas, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken. However, officials with the Cowboys don’t believe Joseph was the one who pulled the trigger. The team also encouraged him to talk with police about what happened, according to Gehlken.

Neither the Cowboys nor Joseph’s lawyer have publicly commented about the matter.

Joseph played college football at LSU and Kentucky and went to the Cowboys as the No. 44 overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He just wrapped up his first season with the team, totaling 16 tackles as part of a staunch defensive attack under first-year defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

More on Kelvin Joseph, Dallas Cowboys

Joseph saw action in two years of college football — one at LSU and one at Kentucky. In 2018, he appeared in six games and totaled 12 tackles for the Tigers. Then, in 2020, he had 25 total tackles along with four interceptions for 62 yards, including a pick-six, for the Wildcats. After that season, he decided to forgo his final year of eligibility and test the NFL Draft waters.

The Cowboys selected him in the second round as part of a huge defensive draft class. They also landed Micah Parsons, the former Penn State star who went on to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021. Dallas is in position to build off last season’s success on that side of the ball, keeping Quinn in town after he interviewed with multiple NFL teams, including the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos.

The Cowboys are coming off a 12-5 season in 2021, which ended in the NFC Wild Card Round in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
