Kenny Wallace reveals he quit Fox Sports NASCAR coverage because he hates airports
The always eccentric Kenny Wallace doesn’t do the Fox Sports thing much anymore. And there is a very good reason why. At least in his mind, it is a good reason. The former NASCAR driver just can’t take the airports and constant traveling that come with the job. In fact, he thinks airports are “filthy” and do nothing but make you angry.
While talking with Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, the St. Louis driver was asked about his feelings on airports and etiquette while flying. It isn’t really a Kenny Wallace issue, it is an everybody else issue.
Kenny even had a specific story in mind when he talked with Gluck.
“We were coming back from Cabo and it was packed around our gate,” Wallace said, via Awful Announcing. “And this man is laying all across like eight seats with no shoes on and crusty feet, nasty toes. … But it amazes me, the etiquette. If it gets to be too much, I move because I’m not confrontational. However, we all have those moments and those days.
“The reason I quit Fox Sports is because of that question. The more you go to the airport, the angrier you get. I cannot stand the airport. It’s filth. It’s a bunch of people who want their space, and you’re not going to get it because you’re all piled on top of each other. If I’m traveling every week and I’m one of the traveling NASCAR media, I’m pissed all the time. I despise the airport because everybody’s about themselves.”
The good news for Kenny Wallace is that he didn’t have to go far this weekend for the NASCAR race. His hometown of St. Louis played host to the Truck and Cup Series.

Kenny Wallace puts on for St. Louis
When he isn’t racing at the local dirt tracks and winning races, Kenny Wallace is usually somewhere around the NASCAR action. While he says he can’t stand flying, he makes his way to his fair share of races. However, his home track, World Wide Technology Raceway was the venue this weekend.
Wallace joined the Fox Sports booth once again. He chatted it up with Clint Bowyer, Mike Joy and the gang. Whatever your opinion about Kenny, you can’t deny that he loves racing and he brings energy to any broadcast that he’s a part of.
Rusty Wallace, Kenny’s brother, was the honorary pace car driver. He had his old No. 2 Miller Genuine Draft Ford out there on the track one more time. It was a great moment for the Wallace family to welcome the Cup Series back for a second year in a row. It helped that the crowd showed out too, in a sellout for Sunday’s race. The crowd loved it when
As NASCAR moves out west to Sonoma, I don’t think Kenny Wallace is going to be rushing to get plane tickets to see the race. But I bet he gives us a little video update from his living room as he so often does.
