Near the end of Stage 2, Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson got into each other on the track. It ruined the No. 8 team’s day at Gateway. Rowdy was not too happy with it all, but the NASCAR champion couldn’t blame anyone but himself.

Kenny Wallace is one of the best voices in the NASCAR world in more ways than one. Old Herm was talking the Busch and Larson incident on his YouTube channel after the race. The former NASCAR racer loves to talk all things about the sport.

As far as on-track moments go, this was the most controversial. For Wallace, it was clear after seeing the replay whose fault it was.

“Kyle Busch on the outside, and that was the preferred lane all day long,” Wallace explained. I mean this lane is big and wide and it’s way out there it looks like you’re at a dirt track it’s like, ‘Woah, if they get any higher they’re going to be in the marbles, they’re going to be in Never-Never Land. They kept pushing this groove higher and higher. Busch is out there. He is driving Kyle Larson nuts.

“Now, here’s the deal: Kyle Busch had two [fresher] tires on, right? Kyle Busch has two tires on. Well, here comes Larson with four tires. … So, here’s Busch, later on he said ‘I’m fighting for stage points.’ … So, Busch is like, ‘I’m going to hold him back I’ve only got to hold him off four more laps to get those stage points.’ All of a sudden Kyle Busch is like ‘Nope,’ BAM! And all of a sudden they’re like, they’re banging, they’re banging going down to the straightaway.

“They get into the corner, Kyle Busch kinda squeezes Kyle Larson down, Larson loses it, right? Bats into Kyle Busch, Kyle Busch is in the wall now, knocks him out of the race, destroys his steering and Kyle Larson goes on to have a good run.”

Busch was a DNF this week. It is no secret his team has struggled in 2024. Richard Childress Racing has struggled overall this year. So, it was another disappointing result, ultimately.

This wreck is really not a big deal. Busch somewhat accepted responsibility after seeing a replay. However, he was totally ready to put it all on himself. Then, Larson commented afterward that he has no hard feelings.

Don’t expect this to be a thing moving forward. More or less a racing incident between two tough competitors.
