This series and former divisional game in the Southeastern Conference has taken a turn over the past few years.

Over 30 years from 1987 to 2017, Florida won 31 straight over Kentucky. In the six games since, the Wildcats have won four of them, including each of the last three. It’s been at home and on the road too with two apiece at each venue. That started with a 27-16 win to end that losing streak in Gainesville and most recently continued with a 33-14 victory last season in Lexington.

Kentucky will come down south after a game this weekend against Vanderbilt. A victory over the Commodores would keep their newfound momentum going after just a one-point loss to No. 1 Georgia and a three-point win on the road over No. 6 Ole Miss before their bye week. That’d be a team of Wildcats that sit at 4-2 having won their last two in conference play and who would enter this game as another favorite.

Florida would then host after going to play No. 8 Tennessee on Rocky Top. The Gators might come back with a loss to the Volunteers to get back down to .500, which could start a downward trend with how the rest of their schedule looks from here on. Still, their season hasn’t been as bad as some may have thought with two straight wins spaced between their bye after losing two games early to teams currently in the Top-15 of the AP Poll.

Kentucky vs. Florida is a form of rivalry from back in the SEC East. Now, as just conference opponents, this game is key for each to somehow win and stay ahead record-wise with both hoping to be back in respective bowl games.
