Not all is calm in Mooresville, North Carolina. Kerry Earnhardt is stepping up to defend his father, Dale Earnhardt’s, legacy and name. Kerry ripped into his father’s widow, Teresa, via social media for a 399-acre, $30 billion deal.

For almost a year now, Teresa Earnhardt has been making plans to rezone 399 acres of her land, which is the old Dale Earnhardt property, into a data center. It is a $30 billion deal that will be up for discussion before the Mooresville Board of Commissioners early next week.

Kerry Earnhardt, the oldest son of Dale Sr., took to social media to express his disagreement with the deal. He was flat out disgusted by the idea of changing the zoning in the area from Rural Residential/Agriculture to Industrial.

“My Dad would be livid for his name to be associated in this title!” Kerry posted on Facebook, via r/NASCAR on Reddit. Frankly, I’m ashamed our family name is involved in the request to rezone a community that is thriving as a Rural Residential/Agriculture zone to be changed to Industrial.

“Infrastructures like this don’t belong in neighborhoods where people’s natural resources will be depleted, wildlife will be uprooted, and the landscape and lives of the people that call this area home with forever be changed. I’d rather see homes built with people loving the land we live on… the way his area was intended to be! I look forward to Monday’s meeting at the Mooresville Town Hall.”

Clearly, Teresa and the Dale Earnhardt kids do not get along. Kerry, Kelley, and Dale Jr. are all out of the loop on these matters. She has the land, she has the properties, and in many cases, she has the trademarks.

Dale Earnhardt’s land up for rezoning discussion

Zoning changes get made every day all across the country. They can alter the demographics and economics of an area for better or for worse. Local governments typically consider the environmental aspects of these decisions against he economic upsides. From there, a decision can be made.

While this has been in motion since last year, it isn’t a done deal. There will be public hearings. Local residents, like Kerry, can go and have their voices heard. So, there is still a process to be had here.

During the aftermath of Dale Earnhardt’s death, the family situation was messy. Remember, Dale Jr. only recently received the No. 8 DEI font trademark. When that happened, it came as a shock. Teresa had to give up the trademark willingly, and so she did.

One of the complaints about a data center is noise. Of course, there is also pollution and increased traffic to the area to consider. So, we know how Kerry Earnhardt feels. We will see if the rest of Mooresville feels the same.
