Kevin Durant welcomes Jayden Daniels to DC, puts him on mambo sauce

NBA superstar Kevin Durant has a message for Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels before he starts his NFL career. Fanatics released a video on Wednesday morning that features the top NFL rookies being welcomed by their fans. Durant is a Commanders fan and shared some advice with Daniels.
“Congrats, man, Welcome to the team, welcome to DC,” Durant told Daniels. “Get you some mambo sauce. Put it on chicken, rice, everything, you good.”
Mambo sauce (or mumbo sauce) is a spicy sauce that is commonly served in restaurants in Washington DC. Durant was born and raised in the DC area and is ready to see if Daniels can get the Commandes to a Super Bowl contender.
Daniels was selected by the Commanders No. 2 overall in this year’s draft after winning the Heisman Trophy at LSU during the 2023 season. He is expected to be the face of the franchise very soon, but the Commanders have yet to name him as the starting QB.
“We have an effective plan for him and Jayden’s the type of guy that wants to go nail it,” Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said this week, per ESPN. “[Others] want to look down the line, but he’s doing outstanding. We’re really pleased where [he’s] at, but we’re not changing the timeline or the guidelines of how we’re going to approach things.”

“If we want to be successful as a team, everybody has to be as one,” Daniels said. “I’m never going to put myself out there in the spotlight to think I’m bigger than anybody, better than anybody. Everybody’s equal on the field and you got to go out there and compete.”
Jayden Daniels shares emotional message with fans
Daniels had a historic season during his final year at LSU. Along with winning the Heisman, Daniels was named AP College Footbabll of the Year and won the Davey O’Brien Award and the Manning Award. In 2023, Daniels completed 72.2 precent of his passes and threw for 3,818 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1.134 yards and 10 touchdowns on 135 carries.
“You’re going to get somebody that’s a competitor, that wants to win no matter what. And I just want to go ahead and compete,” Daniels said during his introductory press conference in April, per the Commanders’ offcial website. “I want to help the team win football games. At some point in the future, we’ll get this thing turned around, hopefully, but take it day-by-day. I’m willing to work and put everything out there on the line.”
