Kevin Harvick shared his thoughts on what happened to Katherine Legge and Daniel Suarez at NASCAR’s Cup Series race at Phoenix on Sunday. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Harvick said Legge was put in a no-win situation after spinning out twice and taking out Suarez.

“I think that this is part of the process from the approval process that is probably not good enough,” Harvick said. “I think that Katherine has a lot of experience in the things that she’s raced throughout her career. But she was really thrown to the wolves in this situation with probably not the best car in the field, probably the worst car in the field, don’t run every week.

“It’s not a knock on the car, but she’s in the worst car and showing up to Phoenix in a Cup car that she’s never driven, not a lot of NASCAR experience. I know that we want people from different series to be able to come into the Cup Series, but we got to get back to some accountability of making sure that the people that are driving these Cup cars and properly perpared to go out on the racetrack and can do the things that they need to do.”

Harvick then talked about the issues Legge had during the race before the crash with Suarez. The NASCAR legend then said, “You can’t let everybody drive” a Cup car because of how hard it is.

“You need some sort of stock car experience to just jump right into a Cup car and be ready for some of the things that happen in the car,” Harvick added. “In this case, it took Daniel Suarez out of the race running sixth and hurt a car that was having a good day.

“…You better be damn ready to drive one of these cars when you get behind the wheel. People (are) just showing up in a car that’s not capable of what the front cars are doing with a support cast of being able to help the under-experienced driver on the Cup Series side get into the car. It’s not fair to the competitors to be put in that position, and I would tell you that it ruined Daniel Suarez‘s day in this particular case.”

Katherine Legge has competed in IndyCar, the IMSA SportsCar Championship and other racing organizations across the world. Before competing in the Cup Series race on Sunday, Legge competed in four Xfinity Series races in 2018 and one in 2023. For the Phoenix race, Legge drove for Live Fast Motorsports, a team owned by former NASCAR driver BJ McLeod and Joe Falk.
