Kevin Harvick calls for NASCAR to 'cycle championship tracks' between Phoenix, Homestead and Las Vegas
Kevin Harvick wants to see NASCAR alternate the championship race between three cities. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Harvick revealed he wants the Phoenix and Homestead to take turns hosting the Championship 4 race.
“I hope at some point we start cycling these championship races of Phoenix to Homestead, even if it’s just those two racetracks,” Harvick said. “What a great cycle of events that we could go back and forth on to have two championship tracks. I really hope that we get back to that because I think that Homestead is such a unique place.”
Harvick then went on to say Las Vegas should be in the mix. “If you had three, do you need more than three in that rotation? If you had Las Vegas, Phoenix, Homestead that rotated that championship race, every three years you went to those locations,” Harvick explained. “You have to take into the account of weather in November, so there’s just not many places that you can go. You want the weather to be good, but I’d love to see Las Vegas Motor Speedway have a championship race. What a great city to be able to host a championship race.
“I’m not saying anything against Phoenix. I think Phoenix has done a great job. I think Homestead just always had that feel of… It felt different at Homestead than it does at Phoenix, and I think Phoenix has a different vibe than Homestead had. There’s good from both.”

More on the NASCAR Championship race
Phoenix became the host of the championship race in 2020 after it was at Homestead from 2004 to 2019. For the 2025 Cup Series season, Phoenix will once again host the Championship race, but the Homestead race will not happen near the end of the year as it was moved to Mar. 23.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. talked about the Homestead in June and said he believes that track could return to being the final race of the year soon. If it ends up being the finale, I’m okay with them sticking it in March or somewhere for a year,” Earnhardt explained on Dale Jr. Download. “Maybe that’s sort of the tradeoff. They want to give some of these other tracks a little bit of an experience of what it’s like being in the playoffs, and Homestead you’re going to be the finale. So we’re going to stick you over here in March, not a favorable date for you, probably not your favorite time of the year to be racing in the NASCAR series. But you’re going to get back to the finale, go sit over here for a bit while we entertain these other tracks in the playoffs.”
