Kevin Harvick diagnoses issues for Ty Gibbs, Brad Keselowski amid 2025 struggles

Coming out of the weekend at Homestead, a few drivers remain in concerning shape. Things just haven’t gone well for either Ty Gibbs or Brad Keselowski all season long.
Kevin Harvick circled both drivers as guys to be concerned about this far into the season. He opened up on the issues for both on the Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast.
“Definitely concerned for the 54, really concerned for the 6 car,” Harvick said. “They have not qualified well. They’ve raced OK a few times. I think that’s probably as much as anything is Brad’s experience. So there are some good scenarios and some bad scenarios that we’ll just have to see how they develop.”
Keselowski’s highest finish so far this season came at Las Vegas, when he finished P11. He also has a P15 at COTA. Outside of that, everything has been in the 20s or 30s.
Gibbs, meanwhile, has a P16 finish at Daytona. Everything else is 22nd or worse, with a smattering of finishes in the 30s.
“I think that the team change on the 54 is definitely something that you’ve got a young driver, young crew chief, lot of change within that organization,” Harvick said.
To some degree, Harvick thinks the issues with Keselowski and Gibbs are just a part of modern-day racing. He even pointed to teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing who actually are performing still having interesting struggles.

“We’ve seen the 11 car of Denny Hamlin really be consistent,” Harvick said. “He hasn’t been; this is the first weekend that I felt like he was truly in the mix just based on speed and not circumstance or something that happened. Christopher Bell has been, he was in victory lane three weeks in a row, but the last two weeks haven’t been spectacular.
“I think that’s Next Gen racing. I think that now is the time, and it’s different this year because we have an Easter break. I think that that off week is a really good time to see what you need to do to your team. You’re going to get a number of different styles of racetracks as we go through this.”
Can the Easter break be the refocusing period that Keselowski and Gibbs need? It needs to be. Both are struggling in the standings right now, with the playoffs a long, long way off.
As it stands, Keselowski is currently ranked 30th on points with 84. Gibbs sits in 34th place, on 68 points. The current playoff cut line is at 130 points.
