Kevin Harvick is retired, but his son Keelan is just beginning his racing career in earnest, taking the track in a stock car for the first time. For the son of the NASCAR Cup Series champion, this is a major step.

It is also a major step for DeLana Harvick who I’m sure needed convincing before her son got into a stock car. What makes this even more cool, this car has Harvick history baked into it.

You can’t talk about Kevin Harvick without mentioning Ron Hornaday Jr. Ron took a body off of Kevin’s old 90s Southwest tour car. He restored the car, added a new body, and there you have it.

Keelan in the same car his dad used to drive. Before he was The Closer. Before the wins. Back when he was cutting his teeth, learning all he could.

Now, it’s his son’s turn.

Keelan Harvick has raced around America, in Italy, and pretty much everywhere he can. Not even a teenager yet, the young Harvick will have world-class experience by the time he’s ready to hit the Truck Series.

Having mentors like Ron Hornaday and Kevin Harvick is only going to help Keelan in his quest to being a professional driver.

Kevin Harvick giving Keelan tools to succeed

If you look at the children of today’s NASAR stars who are also racers, there’s a change. We are in a global motorsports world now. That means various disciplines and various vehicles. Each one gives you a little something different from the rest.

Keelan has expressed his interest in open-wheel racing. Right now, it appears he would rather be an F1 driver than a NASCAR driver. However, I’m sure this stock car is going to put that passion straight into his veins.

This has to be the most relaxing offseason ever for Kevin Harvick. He can fully focus on being a dad and family man. Yes, he has duties for Fox Sports, but compared to racing every weekend, that’s no big deal.

The Harvicks are racers. Keelan is already getting his runs in a street stock car. Soon, it will be Super Late Models, Late Models, Trucks, and Xfinity. It wont be long before we have another Harvick in the NASCAR ranks.
