Kevin Harvick is enjoying his time at FOX after his retirement, and he’s sharing some fascinating stories about his racing career.

During the latest episode of the former NASCAR champion’s Harvick Happy Hour show for FOX, he decided to reminisce a bit about the legendary Dale Earnhardt, providing some insight into a story many haven’t heard before.

Evidently, Harvick was testing for Earnhardt while he cut his teeth with Richard Childress Racing, and he did something the seven-time NASCAR champion didn’t exactly like, and The Intimidator let Harvick know all about it.

“In 2000, I started doing the testing for Dale. I go walking through the Cup garage, because I knew that a lot of the stuff was starting to cycle in, and we had kind of started, just being able to joke around and kid around. Well, he was not kidding around, on this particular day,” Harvick set the stage. “After his media session, he was mad. He rounded up myself, Richard [Childress], Kevin Hamlin and on that particular day, Dale [Earnhardt] Jr. just accidentally walked into the trailer at the wrong time, and he ripped our butts that day, for going testing, and he needed to be at these tests, and he didn’t need to be answering these questions, and this and that.

“So he came back in, he went out and practiced good. Went out and qualified. Ran over the apron. I went back in the trailer, just trying to be a smart-ass. He ran over the apron in qualifying and kind of screwed the lap up, and I said, ‘Hey man, if you need a pillow to see over that steering wheel, just let me know,’ and that was probably not the right thing to say.”

That’s a pretty hilarious story from Harvick, and just a sneak peek into what he’s been sharing since retiring from full-time competition. With all the time in the world and a microphone at his disposal, who knows the stories Harvick will be able to share with the racing world.

The veteran wheelman has already made an impression, drawing rave reviews during his short time with FOX throughout the 2024 season. After calling some Xfinity races over the years, fans knew he was earmarked for greatness with the microphone, and it’s been a smooth transition.

Moving forward, fans will of course miss having Kevin Harvick behind the wheel, but his move to the media world has been everything anyone could’ve asked for and then some.
