Kevin Harvick looked back at when he and Dale Earnhardt Jr. discovered Josh Berry. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, Harvick was asked when he first noticed Berry, and he said it began with a conversation with Earnhardt.

“We wanted to put him in the 4 car,” Harvick revealed. “Myself and Rodney [Childers] and everybody at Stewart-Haas left it up to us as to who the candidates should be that were presented to put in a car. I started talking to Dale about how to go about this. I wanted to make sure that he wouldn’t be mad if we went to talk to Josh because he was driving Chevrolet, he was driving for Dale.

“I started talking to Dale about Josh’s scenario and put him in the 4 car. There’s not a bigger Josh Berry supporter out there than Dale Jr. Josh has been a part of their family for a number of years and had some amazing opportunities with the late models and Xfinity cars. That’s the biggest reason he’s where he is is because of Dale and Kelly [Earnhardt Miller] and the position that they were able to help Josh get into. Josh did his part by winning races.”

Josh Berry got support from Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Kevin Harvick also talked about interviewing Josh Berry for FOX Sports. “He’s a pretty even-keel guy,” Harvick revealed. “…Just hearing him talk about everything he went through in a very brief amount of time that he went through with the 4 car and talking about the 9-car situation and how different those things were. And then just going to the Wood Brothers organization and being open. Those guys being so open-armed to welcome him in the door. Now, it just clicked right off the bat. That’s the crazy part is how fast it clicked with the group that they’ve assembled.”

Josh Berry won his first Cup Series race on Sunday, earning a P1 finish at the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He is in his second full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series and first with Wood Brothers Racing. As Kevin Harvick mentioned, Berry drove the No. 4 car for Stewart Haas-Racing in 2024. He took over for Harvick who retired from full-time racing after the 2023 season.

Berry drove for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series in 2022 and 2023. He won three races in 2022 and earned 10 top-10 finishes in 2023.
