Kevin Harvick is a legend in NASCAR, and his son Keelan is hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps, just in another racing medium.
Instead of becoming another father-son NASCAR duo, the soon-to-be 11-year-old has designs of takings his racing talents for Formula 1 when he’s old enough. That’s his dream, according to Luke Smith of The Athletic.
In an article discussing the barriers for entry for American drivers hoping to join Formula 1, Smith focused a bit on Harvick’s son, and how Keelan could one day take his talents across the pond.
“The 10-year-old son of NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick, Keelan was walking the same streets where so many Formula One legends have tasted success and setbacks. As iconic circuits go, none are grander than Monaco,” Smith wrote. “Keelan posed for a photo at that turn, arm raised with joy. When he posted it to Twitter, the caption read, ‘Maybe one day.’ To him, the dream one day is to race in F1.
“For that to be the goal of a second-generation racer in a NASCAR family at such a young age makes him an outlier…But to give oxygen to that F1 dream, sticking to the US racing ladder, like his father did, simply won’t cut it. Racing in Europe is the only option.”
Moreover, it isn’t a pipe dream for Keelan Harvick, as his family is taking the necessary steps to ensure it could happen for him. The NASCAR champion is going to do everything he can to help his son achieve his ultimate goal.

“The Harvicks have taken the first steps to make that happen,” Smith added. “Keelan has been go-karting in Italy, getting a feel for the racing culture on the other side of the Atlantic. It gives him a crucial understanding of some of the most competitive kart categories.”
Alas, there’s only one American who races in Formula 1 at the moment, and that’s Logan Sargeant. Perhaps Keelan Harvick can break the mold, as it’s evident him and his family are hellbent on doing so.
Nevertheless, the experience of preparing for Formula 1 will help his racing skills regardless, even one day strengthening his chances at racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. Nothing is for certain, but it could possibly help Harvick’s son.
Time will tell if Keelan Harvick can pull off his ultimate goal, but he has plenty of road ahead of him, and the support behind him to make his dream into a reality.
