Immediately after winning the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, Kyle Larson‘s attention was turned to the fact that he had just won at Indy. It was a place he’d tried to win earlier this year in the Indy 500.

And the uber-talented driver immediately announced his intentions to come back and try to win there next May.

The intent was clear: Larson wants to run the double he attempted earlier this year again. And he wants to do it much more successfully this time.

“That wasn’t a hint,” Kevin Harvick said on the Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast. “He can backpedal all that he wants, and we had Kyle Larson on with our Victory Lap this week, and he can backpedal all that he wants, he said he’s going to come back, wants to come back and kiss those bricks on the front straightaway at the Indy 500. I’m here for it.”

Larson’s first attempt at the double was foiled by weather.

He finished 18th in the Indy 500, then attempted to high-tail it to Charlotte where the Coca-Cola 600 was being run.

Kyle Larson did arrive and was about ready to jump into the car that had been manned by Justin Allgaier in his stead. Unfortunately, the race was called due to weather, with Larson unable to run any laps.

Still, it was an impressive attempt.

And judging by the fan reaction Larson got on Sunday at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis, the fans would love to see him try it again. If anything, Larson might be even more competitive this time around.

Harvick certainly seems to think so.

“I think everything that Kyle Larson does in racing — some people get a little annoyed with everybody talking about Kyle Larson — but he races more than anybody on Earth and he’s successful in everything that he does,” Harvick said. “And I like watching Kyle Larson race and do things that other people don’t do. I think it’s great for our sport. It’s not only great for our sport, it’s great for racing. And I want to see him back at the Indy 500.”

There’s one thing Harvick thinks would make it all way more interesting, though.

Kyle Larson got some experience this year running the Indy 500. But what if he wasn’t quite as green the next time around?

“I’d love to see him run a race beforehand,” Harvick said. “I’d like to see him run one of the ovals at some point, because they do some of those double-headers. Just do it. Just skip practice. He doesn’t need practice.”
