Kim Burton reacts to Kyle Busch admitting he needed to wreck Harrison Burton to win
In the last few weeks, the NASCAR world, including Kyle Busch, have learned what is and what isn’t acceptable on the track. Kim Burton is happy to hear that Busch was not willing to wreck her son dangerously in order to win at Daytona.
The cycle of great NASCAR talent usually goes like this: Impresses and dominates in lower series, gets to Cup Series, annoys Cup drivers with aggressive driving trying to prove themselves, matures into an elder statesman of the sport and talks about racing with respect.
For all of the warts and things that Kyle Busch has had in his career, he has come around to this final stage. Busch has done it, Hamlin, Logano, even Dale Earnhardt had to do a little growing up, although he was the best at playing in the gray area between acceptable and not.
After the race, Busch admitted he would have had to wreck Harrison Burton to win. He wasn’t willing to do that. As a mom and race fan, Kim Burton was happy to hear that from the RCR driver.
“I appreciate Kyle saying his only chance was turning someone[.] [Right] rear at Daytona would be bad deal and that he had the morals not to do that even with playoffs, is huge for Kyle’s race morals.”
While the stakes were the same in that moment for Kyle Busch as they were for Austin Dillon at Richmond three weeks ago, Busch decided not to take the same route. That is big. It is good for the sport.
Complain all you want about Rowdy, but he’s matured. And he’s leading the Cup Series garage by example on the track.

Kyle Busch has one more shot at NASCAR Playoffs
There is still one more opportunity for Kyle Busch to go out and win his way into the NASCAR Playoffs. But it is at Darlington. For those who are unaware, Busch has a shaky record at Darlington, at best.
The only time Busch has won at Darlington was all the way back in May 2008, when the track was only on the schedule one time each season. In his last six starts at the track, he has finishes of P27, P11, P7, P30, P33, and P35.
With how his luck has been everywhere else on the Cup Series schedule, is Darlington where it all turns around? The most improbable time to have a perfect race? Busch and his RCR team are probably trying to figure out how to do that right now, but won’t know what they have until they get to the track.
The speed has improved in recent weeks for RCR. With back-to-back top-5s for the first time this season, is Kyle Busch ready to break through and win at Darlington? We will find out soon enough.
