Kirk Cousins praises Bijan Robinson, Falcons RB room

Kirk Cousins seems to be very excited about playing with Bijan Robinson and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons running backs. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback talked about what he likes about the Falcons running back room.

“Talented players certainly. I think it’s fun to play with complete backs,” Cousins said. “I played with backs who are good at one element of the position. But to have a back who can square up in pass protection, run routes, catch the football and then run the football between the tackles and outside, I feel like we have several guys who can do that.

“I’d add Carlos [Washington Jr.] into that mix. I really like his game. That’s exciting. And then it really all have to work as a unit. Our o-line coach, Coach [Dwayne Ledford] talks about how it takes all 11. I would add it takes him as the o-line coach, it takes an offensive coordinator, it takes a head coach. There’s so many pieces to run the ball well.”

Cousins added: “That’s another part of perceptions vs. reality. We got to put the work in out here so that it shows on the field as reality and not just rest on the fact that someone might think Bijan’s going to have a big year. I don’t really care what people think.”

Robinson and Tyler Allgeier made a strong due last year for the Falcons. Each played in all 17 games, and Robinson rushed for 976 yards and four touchdowns, while Allgeier rushed for 683 yards and four scores. In this year’s draft, the Falcons selected running back Jace McClellan from Alabama. In 2023, McClellan rushed for 803 yards and six touchdowns for the Crimson Tide.

What Bijan Robinson likes about Kirk Cousins

In June, Robinson talked about what he likes about Cousins. “Coaches, sometimes, we make things overcomplicated, and players just need that quick little bit. Kirk’s got a great way to explain things,” Robinson said, per the Falcons’ official website. “He’s just a good communicator.”

“The cool thing with him is having a quarterback that studies so much,” Robinson added. “I saw his little play sheet and his spot sheet… and he throws them into those spots in practice. I’m like, ‘That’s kind of crazy.'”
